SR Baber is privately owned and specialise in Renault cars. Our Director ‘Penygraig's’ own motor racing hero Stephen Baber began his career as a motor trader in 1976, and established a thriving Renault dealership which has been open over 25 years at the Old Naval Yard on Tylacelyn Road.
Spider Cup. In June 1998 Stephen became the first-ever British Renault dealer to race at the Le Mans circuit in France during the world-famous Le Man 24 Heures weekend. His 2.0 litre Renault Sport Spider was one of 40 racing over nine laps of the eight-mile circuit.
In keeping with the dealership's motorsport pedigree, two of British motorsport's top stars paid a visit to Stephen's showroom in May 1999. Defending British Rally Champion driver Martin Rowe and his Renault Elf Dealer Rallying team-mate Tapio Laukkanen challenged local kids on a 'virtual rally' computer game and local people came to see the Renault Maxi Mégane rally car and the Williams-Renault BTCC Laguna, both of which were on display.
